Gone Clubbin'
A trip around the world to some of the biggest and best nightclubs
Want to party all night long? You’re in luck—at these mega-clubs around the globe, you can move to the groove until the wee hours of the morning.
Privilege Ibiza
Ibiza, Spain
www.privilegeibiza.com
The title of the world’s largest nightclub belongs to Privilege Ibiza, a place so big, you’ll be hard-pressed to see it all in one night. A giant swimming pool, a garden, a restaurant and decorations that change every night are just the beginning of what you’ll find at this iconic nightspot. The past two summers have seen famed DJ Tiësto spinning a special show every Monday night, and on any given evening, you may hear rock, house, trance, electro or pop music, all streaming through an impressive sound system while you move to the beat with 10,000 other revelers.
Club La Vela
Panama City Beach, Florida, United States
www.clublavela.com
The largest nightclub in the U.S. keeps things fresh by adding new theme rooms every year, each with its own music, ambience and crowd. For hip-hop, high-energy dancing, a light show and bass you can feel vibrating through your body, the Thunderdome room can’t be beat. Techno, disco and rock fans have their spaces, too, as do those looking for a mellower vibe. And if the maître d’ deems you attractive enough, you can get into the plush Pussykat Lounge to rub elbows with the stars and other beautiful people.
Warung Beach Club
Itajaí, Brazil
www.warungclub.com.br
Surrounded by a rain forest to one side and a beach to the other, Warung is known for its amazing outdoor summer parties. Influences from Bali run throughout the club, from the Indonesian-rooted name to the decorations, handpicked by the owners on a trip to the exotic locale. With two dance floors (one that’s open-air), VIP rooms, internationally known DJs spinning electronic music and a view of the water, this 3,500-capacity club is the perfect melding of nature and nightlife.
ageHa
Tokyo, Japan
www.ageha.com
Four dance floors allow for plenty of space to move your feet to the beat at this mega-club; the main floor accommodates 1,500 alone. Expect to hear the sounds of trance, house, hip-hop, R&B, reggae and more. There’s even a “secret” VIP room complete with an outdoor Jacuzzi, and a giant outdoor swimming pool features underwater lighting. While it’s far away from the other attractions of Tokyo, free shuttles run from Shibuya and Roppongi during the night for partygoers’ convenience.
Billy Bob’s Texas
Fort Worth, Texas, United States
www.billybobstexas.com
For something a little different and to get your boot-scootin’ boogying on, head to Billy Bob’s Texas, the largest honky tonk in all the land. If you need to brush up on your line dancing skills (or get some in the first place), there are free lessons every Thursday night. Nearly three acres inside, the venue keeps things hoppin’ with concerts from the biggest stars out of Nashville, live bull riding and plenty of dancing. Fun fact: Merle Haggard once bought a round of drinks for the whole club, setting a world record. So slip on your boots, shine your spurs and get ready for an authentic country experience.
Guvernment
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
www.theguvernment.com
With space for more than 4,000, Guvernment knows how to draw the big crowds. The swank D’Luxe Lounge, with black and white décor, hydraulic lighting grids and a full-color laser system, is just one of many specialty rooms; the Moroccan-themed Tanja and outdoor Skybar are two others you won’t want to miss. Some of the best DJs in the world play here, where the party lasts well after the sun rises.
The City
Cancún, Mexico
www.thecitycancun.com
Fergie, Paul van Dyk, Akon and Flo Rida have all been here—along with many, many others, as this club can pack in more than 5,000. Nightly Cirque du Soleil–style acrobatic shows will wow, as will a performer who twists, twirls and juggles fire (giving a whole new meaning to “disco inferno”). Oxygen, bubble, fog and balloon machines keep things interesting throughout the three-floor complex.
Cocoon
Frankfurt, Germany
www.cocoonclub.net
A high-end sound system that moves in sync perfectly with the light installations and video playing on a 360-degree screen makes this a club to remember. “Cocoons,” each with comfy seating, a minibar, light controls and a sound system, provide a cozy and chic place to take a breather from the crowds. You can’t miss the Membrane Wall, a sponge-like structure that wraps around the entire main floor. This metamorphosis is definitely one you have to see to believe.
